So? Where did The Blade Order start?
The Blade Order started life somewhere around the year 2000 in a game called Ultima Online. This is where Jaz, Reefer, Bhuna and Lefay (a lass from Portugal we dont see much of anymore), henceforth known as the 'Founders' spent 4 years of their lives from 1999 onwards.
The Founders first experience of guild life was in a medium sized guild known on Europa (one of UO's gameworlds) as The Order of Light headed up by Ulther Fireblade, but ended in tragedy when an argument between the guildmaster and a couple of other members tore the guild apart. The Founders remained on good terms with the Ulther but decided the time was right to forge ahead and start their own using lessons they had learned from the mistakes made in The Order of Light and thus 'The Order of the Blade' was born, with Jaz as it new Guild Master. Credit for the name has to go to Grim Reaper, as this was the name of the knightly order that he had created, that one of Jaz's characters was sworn to in the pen and paper version of Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, a few years before.
The guild remained small and stayed that way for years but before the guild became what it is today a name change was ushered in, as at the time, Jaz felt that the name was both too long for some of the other games the Founders were starting to experiment with and the guild initials were OoB. A little too close to the word Noob for Jaz's liking. The name was changed to the now familiar name of 'The Blade Order' and with the initials of 'TBO' Jaz was much happier. Top
What other Games did The Blade Order exist in?
The guild saw a few games and the membership remained as the Founders through Jumpgate (although the guild name in that game was 'Wraith Traders', Asheron's Call 2, then Planetside. Planetside deserves a mention here as this is the game that really started to swell the ranks of TBO. With additions such as Toccs, Cooky, Magua, Lola, NoParking, Glimpf, Starski, Revelation, RealMonster, Sheepeh & Facultas. In fact most of the core members (and it's acknowledged that not all of them are mentioned here) all came from Planetside.
As interest in Planetside waned, City of Heroes took over as the game of choice, but not before Jaz tried out EVE Online for about 2 months by himself. City of Heroes saw a few other members join the permanent ranks of TBO, although only Grim Reaper (real life friend of Jaz) is the one that springs to this journalists' mind as he writes.
Life after City bacame a bit of a limbo time many guild members were waiting for EQ2 to be released and were playing all sorts of games like Sims 2, Star Wars Battlefront and Some even went to give EVE Online a try including Jaz. Top
I played Classic until I was nearly level 60. It needs The Burning Crusade really for me though. I am lurking around Daggerspine again for a while, trying to get used to the changes lol
