Well we use dell computers at my company and personally i hate them, i would choose the alienware for various reason
1, Customer support - Dells is awful, Aliens is absolutley top notch i have had several Alienware pc's over the years and the guys at the tech support and customer servicesa really know what they are talking about.
2, Alien Machines are indestructable they take alot of time testing the hardware they put into the machines and make sure everything runs as it should do, Dell on the other hand take whatever on paper appears to be the best and chuck it all in a box with sub standard parts such as cooling, graphics etc
3, If you dont take alienware take some time to shop around for a machine of similar spec to the deal from dell i garuntee you'll find it alot cheaper elsewhere, dell are very overpriced, Alien you get what you pay for and its always worth it
4, Dont be fooled by the packs dell offer in support, the company i work for pay for Dell Gold Support (just means we bypass first line tech) and what they claim to be accidental dmg etc means what Dell as a company class as accidental dmg, the only cover from dell that covers you for everything is called complete care and it costs an arm and a leg
Take a look at places such as www.pcspecialist.co.uk machines built to exactly what you ask for, i bought my last machine from these guys and i have to say its been a pleasure, nothing has gone wrong with it so far and i've had it about 7 months
Hope this helps in your decision
Edit: the only "better" pieces i see in the dell machine are the processors, otherwise the alien is the same or better in all other areas
John

Thanks for the input.
Thats strange because we use dell at the school I work in and I find the tech support awesome. If something is faulty they send a new part out that day and I just send the faulty part back with the same courier.
Ive also had a Dell xps Gen3 for coming up for 4 years with absolutley no trouble with it and still plays CoD4
My only interaction with alienware has been with the sales team and Ive found them positively awful.Any question Ive asked them has been met with dumbstruck silence, even when I asked them if coupon codes actually existed as Ive never seen one.
I suppose its apples and oranges but Im more interested in the specs of the pc not who is supplying it.
I may well ditch the accidental cover if I do go for the Dell
As for the processors yes the Dell is miles better especially for gaming which is what I'll mostly use it for.The other stuff I more or less kept the same to compare prices its quite a lot of money to fork out as it is let alone paying that much more for a slower machine.
Im only really interested in Dells or Alienware.Mainly because I know and like Dell (always loved my Gen3) but have always wanted an alienware if they weren't so overpriced |

Then i would say for sure go with the Dell, your experiances sound alot better than the ones i go through.. quesiton like have you rebooted!! i work in tech support dont treat me like a user lol
The Alien sales people are kinda yeah... well.. lol clueless but then i find most PC sales people are they just hang on buzz words like Quad core but dont actually know what it is or does.
As you say though apples and oranges and it comes down to personal preference and experiance with the machines your listing as both are pretty much equal, i think Dell now own Alienware as well?
GL though with whichever you decide both sexy machines |

first of all i don't like AMD processors.. intel ftw no matter what
second thing is Alienware is something like this : give ppl the ability to customise their computers as a brand and just for the Alienware name charge them for 600 € more.. and i recommend you to wait for the oppinion of Dgtall about this.. i'll let him know about your little problem here other then that gl m8
DPS with a "tude".. How suprising..
You can run.. But you just die tired..

I still like the opinions guys but I have gone for the Dell, as you say Intel ftw.
Only difference on the spec above is I have swapped the ATI3870 for a Nvidia 8800GT.
